'Bala' is a gangster film mixed with love. Screenplay by debut director Deepak is dragging. Fantastic music by Yuvan Shankar Raaja, and lyrics of Arivumathi are the only plus points of the movie.

Jeyamani (Raghuvaran) and Rajan work under Paranthaman (Thilakan) as gangsters. Shyam is Rajan P Dev's henchman. Shyam has a flashback for why he has opted the path of a gangster. Flash back seems very routine. Arthi (Meera Jasmine) is the daughter of Jeyamani a rival gangster of Paranthaman. Shyam and Arthi fall in love with each other. Raghuvaran and Rajan end up competing with each other. The competition gets to violent that Thilakan interferes and decides that the best way to avoid further violence is to get Rajan's son married to Raghuvaran's daughter. How Shyam and marry unite in the end forms the crux of the story.

Meera Jasmine is the star attraction of the film. She looks great. Shyam has given good performance but he need to improve more. Experienced stars like Nagesh, Thilakan, Rajan P Dev and Raghuvaran have executed their roles without any flaws.
