'Raghu Romeo' wins over audience
'Raghu Romeo' has been selected for Locarno Film Festival. It isn't just another one of those small-time crossover films, which find a niche audience upon release. It is a rare film that has the potential to bridge distances between mainstream and alternative cinema. Rajat Kapoor's (of Monsoon Wedding and Dil Chahta Hai fame) second directorial venture was viewed by a full house, when the film was recently screened for the trade.

Story Raghu Romeo is about a man who takes television too seriously. The 30 year old waiter Raghu (Vijay Raaz)blives with his widowed mother in a ramshackle lower middle class tenemant. A dancer, Sweety (Sadia Siddiqui), is in love with Raghu and a gangster Anna (Saurabh Shukla) is in love with Sweety. One shining light inspires Raghu to coast through his humdrum existence with a semblance of equanimity - the ideal woman Neeta (Sadia Siddiqui) who unfortunately is not a real person but a character in the long running all time hit soap opera, Dard. Reshma, the actress who plays Neeta, is hardly like the character she portrays. What happens when reality collides with fantasy? A madcap adventure that ends with Raghu finally growing up. At the core, the film examines a common man's obsession with fantasy and how that can lead to blurring of boundaries between real and the reel. It is his coming to terms with reality that forms the crux of the plot.

Performance Vijay Raaz did an excellent job, He put life into his character. Sadia Siddiqui as Sweety, Maria Goretti as Neeta were perfect. Saurabh Shukla as the don did a commendable job.
verdict Raghu Romeo wins over its audience on two platforms acting and dialogues.
